8-days all-inclusive escorted trip around Galicia visiting Lviv, an open-air museum of European architecture – the pearl of Ukraine and the castles of the Lviv Province presenting 13-18th centuries fortification structures, and Bukovyna with its gem – Chernivtsi.
DAY 1 LVIV Arriving Lviv – the “city of lions”, the heart and soul of Western Ukraine, its largest city and one of Ukraine’s most important cultural, academic and economic centers. Welcoming dinner.
DAY 2 LVIV Morning panoramic city tour with the most interesting sites of Lviv including St. George Cathedral, University building, Freedom Avenue with Shevchenko Monument, old city quarters, included into UNESCO World Heritage List: Market square, Armenian quarter, complex of Assumption church, remnants of Lviv fortifications. A highlight of the tour is the visit to the High Castle Hill with its beautiful panoramic views. In the afternoon visit to the Lviv Gallery of Arts located in the former Palace of Potocki family (end of the 19th c.) with the collection of Western European painting. Dinner at the Ukrainian restaurant.
DAY 3 LVIV Morning tour of the miniature town of Zhovkva, residence of King Jan III Sobieski of Poland with its baroque Catholic Church of St. Laurence, the Ukrainian Church of the Nativity, the old Synagogue. In the afternoon visit to the Wooden Architecture Museum with unique collection of Western Ukrainian typical wooden architecture. Dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 4 LVIV Departure for Zolochiv Castle (Sobieski family residence) with its Chinese pavilion, further to Pidhirtsi Castle (Rzewuski family residence) with its charming early neo-classical Roman Catholic Church.Lunch at Olesko Castle (birth place of Jan III Sobieski and Lviv Gallery of Arts branch) and trip to Pochayiv Lavra – neo-baroque Ukrainian Orthodox Monastery, one of the most sacred and pilgrimage places in Ukraine. Dinner at an Lviv local restaurant.
DAY 5 CHERNIVTSI Departure for Chernivtsi via Rohatyn visiting the 16th century wooden church of Holy Spirit, a short stop touring Ivano-Frankivsk with its retained Polish atmosphere. Visit museum of Hutsul Applied Art and Easter Egg – “Pysanka” Museum in Kolomya. Dinner and overnight at “Bukovyna” Hotel in Chernivtsi.
DAY 6 CHERNIVTSI Full day tours in Chernivtsi including University Ensemble built in neo-gothic style as the one time residence of the Bukovynian Metropolitans, art-noveau mosaic Museum of Fine Arts. Dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 7 CHERNIVTSI Full day trip to Khotyn Fort famed for Jan III Sobieski defence against the Turks in 1621. Continue to the fortress city of Kamyanets-Podilsky – one of the oldest towns of Ukraine, which is considered a phenomenon of great importance. A rocky hill skirted by the tight loop of the Smotrych River flowing in a picturesque canyon serves as a unique pedestal on which over more than a thousand years both well-known and anonymous masters created a miracle in stone. Dinner at a local restaurant in Chernivtsi.
DAY 8 CHERNIVTSI – LVIV Transfer from Chernivtsi to Lviv. Flight abroad. End of the tour.
